The Sneaker

I can’t believe I’m about to admit that I, of all people, find myself on board with the sneaker trend. I know what you’re thinking… Isn’t this the very girl that openly mocked anyone and everyone who wore tennis shoes with jeans? Yes, it’s me, and I’m here to admit that I may have misjudged. Much like a jean jacket, I thought the sneaker would be forever out of the question when it came to style. (I don’t particularly like any item of clothing that gives me flashbacks to the prepubescent middle schooler I once was.) But I’ve seen people bring back the jean jacket (I refuse to acknowledge this trend) and I’ve seen people pull off the sneaker.

At first, throwing a sneaker on with a perfectly polished outfit seemed strange, but I kind of love it. The shoe adds a little carefree “I know I’m chic, I don’t even have to try” vibe to your outfit.

As with any trend, there are a few guidelines: pick a thinner shoe to pair with skinny jeans, don’t forget your accessories, and don’t be afraid to show some ankle.

Here are my favorite looks:

Love it or hate it? I’d like to hear your thoughts in the comment section. And for all you skeptics out there, I was in NYC last week and I promise you even the chicest of chic were wearing sneaks!

ps- I will still mock middle-aged men in sneakers & jeans, Ryan Gosling style.

Kris Kross will make you jump, jump

Let’s talk about jumpsuits for a moment shall we? “Don’t try to compare us to another bad little fad.” The jumpsuit trend re-emerged a few years ago and it seems to be here to stay… “jump, jump.” Ok, I’ll stop with the 90s hip-hop references.

I’m all about easy dressing, but just because I gravitate toward easy doesn’t mean I want to wear sweatpants. Here’s where the jumpsuit comes in handy; it can be casual, it can be dressed up, and it only requires you to put one thing on your body… yes please. So next time you’re having one of those days when you can’t imagine actually putting on real clothing, throw on a jumpsuit and you’ll look “chic, chic” (see what I did there?)

Here are my favorite jumpsuit looks:

Here are some items I’ve got my eye on this week.

  • Boyfriend jeans are a good alternative to the skinny jean.
  • I’ve never met a stripe I didn’t like.
  • Carmel-colored leather is always a favorite.
  • Simple gold rings with a tiny bit of personality are perfect for stacking.
  • And last but certainly not least, these Madewell black heels are stunning.

“I’ll Stop Wearing Black When They Invent a Darker Color”

aBLACK 180

Black on Black is the epitome of chic. It’s effortless yet looks perfectly put together. Black flatters everyone, it’s slimming, it’s sophisticated, and it matches everything… especially black.

While retail stores are stocking their shelves with color for Spring, I’m swooning over all black ensembles. Donning this classic monochromatic look always makes me feel like a million bucks no matter the season.

A few things to remember:

  • Varied textures look best. Add interest by bringing in unexpected materials. Leather, faux fur, or knits paired with less exciting textures like denim or cotton add more va-va-voom to your outfit.
  • Let your accessories pop. Even a dainty gold necklace makes a statement when you’re dressed head-to-toe in one color.
  • Change your lipstick. A switch of color can bring your LBD from day to night  in an instant.

And let’s be real, no one does all-black quite like Mary Kate & Ashley. Kudos to my favorite twins for being downright flawless as far as fashion is concerned.
