My Love Letter to Mindy Kaling

Mindy is the BEST. It’s no secret that my Twitter might as well be dedicated to how fabulous she is. I am the first to admit I’m guilty of fan-girling all day everyday.

One of the (many many many) reasons I love Mindy is because of her style. She knows how to mix prints, she loves incorporating textures, she perfects how to layer, she isn’t afraid of bold color, and she has some serious shoe game. But the biggest takeaway for me is her attention to detail. In every single outfit she dons, there is a little unexpected “something” about it that just brings her outfit to another level.

Thanks Minds for always inspiring me! (Call me and we will share clothes, secrets, and a love for television.)

Here’s the podcast, ignore how hideous my voice sounds, ok.

Currently Craving: Beauty Addition

As of this week, SPRING HAS ARRIVED IN BOONE. The forecast is calling for temperatures in the UPPER 6Os FOR THE WHOLE WEEK. Those words have never felt sweeter. It’s been a long winter and I’m ready to go outside without a down jacket. So I’ve rounded up the items I’m craving to help channel Spring…think pale pinks with pops of red.

Now get outside and ENJOY the glorious sunshine.

A J.Crew Love Affair

I think we can all agree that J.Crew can style their clothing so well it hurts. They’ve mastered the “effortlessly put-together” look I longingly aspire to posses in my own style. One of my favorite wardrobe staples is the pencil skirt, but I’m always second guessing myself when I put it on. “Am I styling this right?” “Is there something I could do to wear this better?” “Am I too corporate and not enough casual?” “How’s my hair?” (the last  question is always a part of every thought that pops into my head, just let it be.) Here’s where J.Crew comes in. They KNOW they’ve perfected the pencil skirt…They KNOW they’re cool… and they KNOW people like me will be looking to them for inspiration. (Conceited biotches.) Take a page from their (online) catalogue and pin it to your (pinterest) bulletin board for later inspiration.

P.S. No one said you had to purchase these J.Crew items. I’ve picked these looks because they’re simple enough to emulate with items already in your closet. (However, that floral pencil skirt has me swooning!)

Happy Spring!

Oscar Aftermath

Alright, alright, alright. Let’s talk about the Oscars, aka my favorite night of the year. Anytime you put celebrities in couture and shove them in a room together, I’m in it for the long haul… and last night was a very long haul. Ellen was the perfect host, Twitter was extra snarky, and the cue music only forced people off the stage like twice… so I’d count it as a successful show.

Because I think of these people as my friends, (shhh it’s fine) I had a hard time picking my favorites. So I’ve compiled the trends of the night, assigned some superlatives, and called it a day. Enjoy.

Celebrity Couples: Brad & Angelina, Matthew & Camila, Jason & Olivia, and Dax & Kristen (my personal favorites)

White Jackets: Ryan Seacrest, Jared Leto, and Matthew McConaughey

Navy: Amy Adams, Kevin Spacey, and Sandra Bullock

Not-so-basic Black: Emma Watson, Julia Roberts, and Charlize Theron

Classic Tux: Bradley Cooper, Zac Efron, and Leonardo DiCaprio

Sparkling Nudes: Cate Blanchett, Giuliana Rancic, and Jenna Dewan. This color was definitely the most popular this year, and these ladies were a few of the MANY rocking the embellished nude gowns.

My Superlatives:

Best Dressed Female: Lupita Nyong’o. Perfect in every single way.

Best Dressed Male: Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Does he ever get it wrong!?

Worst Dressed: Anna Kendrick. Sorry funny lady, I think you’re great, but your dress sure wasn’t.

Most Glam: Kate Hudson. The cape, the low v, the side-swept hair…it’s all good.

Most Boring: Jennifer Lawrence. I know she’s the face of Dior, but why did her Dior gown have to be so “meh”

Best Hair: Jared Leto. He can rock ombre better than any girl.

Just Bizarre: Pharrell Williams… in shorts.

Best Velvet: Ellen Degeneres. Lena Dunham said it best when she tweeted “Every man here needs a lesson in rocking a tux from Ellen.”

Best Brit: Benedict Cumberbatch. His suit game is always on point and he’s funny, charming, and really good at photobombing.

Best Preggo: Olivia Wilde. Flawless.

Worst Preggo: Kerry Washington. She’s so beautiful, but this dress did not flatter her. And I’m not into the whole vampy lip trend.

Agree or disagree? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comment section.
